Kambo
Kambo - What is Kambo?

Kambo is a secretion from the Giant Monkey Tree Frog. Kambo is used to revitalize, detox and strengthen the mind, body, and spirit. The use of Kambo differs amongst tribes but the main indigenous uses revolve around lifting “Panema” – an indigenous name for dark or negative energy, as well as for Hunting Magic – they believe it enhances their speed and energy during hunting and that it makes the hunter invisible by temporarily eliminating their human odor. There are many ways they use it medicinally too, including: malaria, snake bites, fevers, infections, fertility problems, to cleanse, detox and strengthen the mind and body, to increase energy and stamina, and to reduce pain. In the Amazon, it is regarded as a medicine however this should not be confused with the western definition of a medicine.

Outside of the forest, Kambo has been the subject of more than two decades of  medical research. As with venoms from snakes and scorpions, researchers believe that Kambo will open up a new world of  treatments for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Pain, Cancer, HIV, Parkinsons Disease, Alzheimers, Depression,  Vascular problems, Hepatitis, Diabetes, Rheumatism, Addictions and much, much more. Their work consists of attempting  to identify, isolate and reproduce the incredible and unique chemical cocktail that Kambo is. It contains dozens of Peptides,  some of them bioactive which means they have an affinity and selectivity for binding with receptor sites in humans (A receptor  is like a lock that, when opened with the right key—the bioactive peptide—triggers specific chemical reactions in the body). Recent  studies have shown that Kambo contains multiple antimicrobial peptides effective against drug resistant strains of bacteria, fungi, protozoa,  parasites and virus, providing opportunities for the development of new and more efficient nanotechnological-based therapies for treating infectious diseases.

What are the Peptides in Kambo?

Phyllocaerulein – a neuropeptide (a special type of peptide that helps neurons communicate in the brain) that reduces blood pressure, modifies satiety (stomach fullness), and manages sedation and thermoregulation. It’s also a potent pain killer.

Phyllokinin – a peptide that reduces blood pressure over the long-term and crosses the blood-brain barrier to help take Kambo’s benefits to the brain.

Phyllomedusin – a neuropeptide (unique to Kambo) that acts as a powerful vasodilator, widening and relaxing blood vessels, veins, and arteries.

Dermorphin – a peptide chain that acts on opioid receptors to reduce pain. It is 30-40 times more potent than morphine.

Deltorphin – another peptide that interacts with opioid receptors, showing higher selectivity for these receptors versus any compound known to man. There are 2 Deltorphins in Kambo, adding to its pain-killing properties.

Dermaseptin – a peptide with potent antimicrobial effects against bacteria, yeast, fungi, protozoa, and even enveloped viruses.

Adenoregulin – a peptide that has been shown to be highly effective in killing cancer cells, effectively turning off their fuel supply.

Tryptophyllin – a peptide that been shown to be highly potent against the yeast Candida Albicans.

Phyllolitorin, [Leu8] Phyllolitorin, Rohdei-Litorin – 3 neuropeptides that stimulate gastric acid secretion and smooth muscle contraction.

Despite  the billions  of pounds/euros  and dollars being  poured into researching  and developing mainstream  synthetic medication  from Phyllomedusa Bicolour  frog secretions, no one has  yet managed  to reproduce  the original! Kambo in its original, natural  form is a holistic treatment  that works  on the  mind and  body at all  levels in ways  that we don’t completely understand yet. The Indians  are quite right to use the word magic when  describing this secretion.

Kambo is one of the strongest natural anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antimicrobial and anesthetic substances found in the world and one of the strongest, natural ways to strengthen the immune system. It also detoxes the liver and the intestines so it’s a powerful cleanser. Immediate and short term effects include enhanced mood, alertness, clarity, focus, energy and increased resistance to stress, tiredness, hunger and thirst. The mind becomes still, you feel lighter and everything becomes easier to manage. In the longer term, Kambo empowers the immune system, rousing the body’s defence systems to their natural functions so that existing health problems are improved or resolved and future ones are less likely to occur. In spiritual terms, Kambo works in a mystical fashion as a light that opens the way, helping us to overcome obstacles and release blockages on an emotional level. It clears our energy field and realigns the chakras, enabling us to break negative habits and live and think more naturally. Participants are advised and encouraged to do their own research as to the potential benefits of taking Kambo.

  • Have serious heart problems

  • Are on medication for low blood pressure

  • Have had a stroke

  • Have had a brain hemorrhage

  • Have an aneurism or blood clot(s)

  • Lack the mental capacity to make the decision to take Kambo

  • Have serious mental health problems, excluding depression, PTSD and anxiety

  • Are undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy or who had undergone it within the last 4 weeks

  • Take immune-suppressants for organ transplant

  • Have Addison’s Disease

  • Have current and severe epilepsy

  • Are recovering from a major surgical procedure

  • Are under 18 years old

  • Are pregnant, who suspect they may be, or are breast-feeding a child under 6 months old

  • People who have worked with Bufo Alvarius (toad medicine) in the last 6-8 weeks prior to Kambo

This is not an exhaustive list.

*Please go over any specific health issues you have and if you are taking any pharmaceuticals/supplements. It is completely safe to take medicines, but need to discuss prior. If you are menstruating at the time of treatment, Kambo may well cause the flow to increase for 24-36 hours because it contains powerful Vasodilators. If you are Asthmatic ensure that you have your inhaler with you. If you are Diabetic it’s important to discuss your treatment in advance. The same applies if you are taking medication for a mental health condition.

The Process - What to Expect

Kambo is intense but fast. The unpleasant effects are strong and immediate but over within 20 – 40 minutes.

Kambo application begins as the practitioner makes small superficial burns to the epidermis. This is to create the gates, entry spots for the Kambo to absorb into the body. No bleeding occurs as this only exposes the dermis, giving access to the lymphatic system. The practitioner then adds water to the dried Kambo stick and rolls it into small round points with a small utility knife.

Once the points are created they are then applied to gates, traditionally created on the upper left arm of men and the right lower leg of women. The number and position of the points varies from person to person depending on individual needs and various sessions. The same points are reused if you have a series in the same session. All first time users will be tested with a “test point” for sensitivity before treatments. The small points of Kambo are applied. This is the only way to take Kambo – it is not safe to ingest it, snort it or to introduce it into the bloodstream directly. The Kambo enters directly into the Lymphatic System, so the effect is very fast.

Most people experience a warm to hot flush on the upper body and face along with increased heart rate. At this point, different people will react in different ways. Some will feel dizzy, foggy or spaced out; the occasional person will shake or even faint. Some people have swollen lips or face (‘frog face’) and slight skin tingling. The Kambo will be racing around your body, scanning it for problems and then going directly to work on those areas. You may experience a throbbing or burning sensation in those areas for a short while. Some people may feel some abdominal discomfort and need to purge or defecate. Once the Kambo has cleaned the body you will purge all the toxins out. This purging process works on a physical and emotional level. You may feel tired at this point and need to rest.

Within a short time – usually an hour or so you will feel much better and you can drink and eat normally.

Within a day or so, depending on your state of health, you will start to feel the real benefits. Kambo can bring things up to the surface, so do keep that in mind during your process and integration.

Other Offerings - Rapé ('ha-pay') & Sananga

Rapé pronounced like ‘ha-pay’  is a traditional Amazonian powdered snuff, made from a combination of leaves, seeds, bark, herbs, spices, oils, flowers and ash. Consisting of various medicinal plants, roots and trees, the base generally contains 'mapacho', or Amazonian tobacco (Nicotiana Rustica). Breathing is momentarily suspended, while the snuff is blown through both nostrils, using a small pipe typically made from bamboo or bone. Rapé is considered to be sacred medicine, and can be used by itself, or as an adjunct with other healing medicines, such as Kambo. When given during a Kambo treatment, Rapé is used to aid with releasing blockages and facilitating purging. In other situations, the benefits of Rapé can include heightened awareness, mental focus, clarity, deeper meditation, cleansing, grounding, emotional release, spiritual insight, opening of the heart, as well as clearing headaches, sinus problems, and connecting with the healing spirits of the forest.

Sananga is a traditional Amazonian eye medicine, made from the shredded root of a rainforest shrub. On a physical level, these liquid eye drops have been used in the treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, conjunctivitis, dry and red eyes, eye infections, sinusitis and chronic headaches. It has been known to sharpen one's vision, improving color perception and image definition, giving the environment greater texture and depth. It's also said to help clear panema and open the third eye, as well as helping to keep one balanced emotionally, mentally, energetically and spiritually. Sananga can be used as a stand-alone medicine, as well as before and after Kambo, helping one ground, center, uplift, and open themselves further, as well as clearing and refreshing the eyes.

Essential Oils
Essential Oils

The sense of smell is a tool that can elicit powerful physiologic, mental, and emotional responses. Essential oils are quickly absorbed by the smell receptors, which have a direct link to the limbic system by way of the olfactory nerve. The limbic system is part of the brain that supports a variety of functions including smell, emotions, behavior, and memory. For this reason, essential oils have an especially powerful effect via aromatic application.

Some essential oils induce uplifting or invigorating effects, while others are more calming. Diffusion is one of the simplest methods for using essential oils aromatically. Diffusers that use cold air or water are ideal. However, using essential oils aromatically does not require any special diffusing devices.

Essential oils are used during, before and after your session as needed to help guide you through your process.
